Hey guys, I am wondering if you think I would like playing the witcher 3, seeing as its on sale for 30 CAD until tomorrow (August 26) on steam, I was wondering if I should pick it up. I really enjoy skyrim and RPG's where you have to build up your skills/equipment.

Side note: I have an AMD fx-6300 and 8gb of ram and am expecting my GTX 1060 sometime, can anyone give me an idea of performance to expect? Or just let me know if it is a very CPU heavy game?

All feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!

You should! And you can expect mostly high with a couple ultra for 45ish to 60fps, I had a 6300 and a 970 and thats what i liked.

Intel i5-6600K, be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3, Asus MAXIMUS VIII Gene, 16gb Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4, 500gb Samsung 850 Evo, 2tb Seagate Barracuda, GTX 1080 EVGA FTW, Thermaltake Core v21, Seasonic M12II 850W

W3 is a great game but it's not directly comparable to Skyrim, they come from completely different schools of RPG games. Skyrim is a choose your own adventure game with loads of freedom whereas W3 is a character RPG with a more focused approach. You can't just finish the tutorial and then fuck off to do whatever you want in W3 like you can in Skyrim. Both are good and it will run pretty well on your system as the game is very scaleable with a well fleshed out options menu that you can tweak to get the performance and visuals that you want or need.

It is nothing like Skyrim, it plays very differently but it is awesome game with really great story.

I play it on 1080p with GTX 1060 and i7 4770k both overclocked.

Everything on ultra except hair works off and foliage on high. I never dip below 60FPS.

Just have in mind than you don't create your own character or your own story. You play as Geralt of Rivia and you will meet with difficult choices.

You don't see it because he is playing it right now, and hasn't gotten the time for anything other than science, and the witcher 3.

read my messages in a gleeful tone.

I played the game for about 250 hours with a GTX 770, and the 1060 is a lot faster than that. I'm sure it's capable of 60 FPS at max settings minus Nvidia HairWorks. It is a pretty CPU heavy game, and with an FX-6300 you're probably not going to maintain a solid 60 FPS in the densest areas of the cities, but aside from some minor drops there I think you'll run it very well.

It's a masterpiece among single-player RPGs. Just don't expect to have quite as much freedom as you have with a game like Skyrim. It's not a sandbox. The Witcher 3 is a more tightly hand-crafted game (which is to it's advantage, in my opinion) and you will play as a specific character with a specific backstory within that world.

According to this article, the GoTY Edition will be $50 and releases on August 30, which is exactly how much The Witcher 3 + the Expansion Pass is on Steam right now. So I don't see any point in waiting. For what it's worth, Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine are better than some entire games themselves, but you could always skip them for now and pick them up later once you decide how much content you want for this game. They only have 15% discounts anyway.

I can confirm this to, I played this game through twice on my old GTX 770 and it ran it at mostly ultra settings with hairworks and some distance rendering turned down. It hovered around 50-60fps. The 1060 will destroy the witcher 3 at ultra 60+ fps at 1080p no problems.
