I am planning on upgrading my little modest rig with i5-4440 to a 5820k 2011v3 , because of 3d rendering (Vray).

Since rendering has near linear performance gain with overclock it would be a shame not to do it. I was initially thinking of overclocking the 5820k to 4GHz on air, since far as i know water cooling can be a bit of a nag and is considerably more expensive, correct me if am wrong.

So would 4GHz be a good stable clock on air, could i ask for more, assuming average bin and how would a 24 hour session of max load affect the cpu with OC?

Air would work, but you could overvolt the chip a little further for higher clocks if you went with a 240mm or 280mm aio.

have to agree with the aio. That chip is 3.3 base making 4ghz a 21% overclock
