So I'm going to be putting a simple desk together using the following parts from IKEA

Given the width of the table top, it looks like having too much weight in the middle might be a problem, however all I would have there would be my two monitors and my keyboard and mouse.

The table top is 3.8cm tick which is about 0.5cm ticker than my current desk, but it's also 80cm wider than my current desk.

Any thoughts?

well it should work. i have 1.2m without anything under it (+ 40cm on a drawer unit) and the table top is only 2cm thick, no bending here. So this should work out fine. allthough I'd get a table top with at least 70 cm width because the drawer unit has 70 cm

Thanks. Also the drawer is 70cm in height. For some reason in the basket it shows the width and the height of it, but not the depth.

oh i see. But I'd get the 70cm table top all day, because the extra depth is so useful imo

The desk I currently have is about 15cm less tick than this one, so I think it would be fine. Also the only one on IKEA I could find that was ticker was 75cm tick but is 150cm wide.

It should be fine. I have a similar desk (same product family, but about 1.8m long and a little deeper) and it holds up just fine with 4 monitors, keyboard, audio equipment and a load of random stuff on the desk.

guess its just me but if ur in ikea picking it up give it a good tap make sure its not hollow crap like most there stuff, if it is its basically a couple 2mm sheets of plywood glued on top of honeycomb paper, nothing supporting it at all inside.

same price round here you could go to a diy store and get a kitchen counter that u could jump on all day long and not break ;)

I actually have that EXACT desk setup. No problem at all.

Case: Meatbag, humanoid - APU: Human Brain version 1.53 (stock clock) - Storage: 100TB SND (Squishy Neuron Drive) - PSU: a combined 500W of Mitochondrial cells - Optical Drives: 2 Oculi, with corrective lenses.

I have a hollow one thats filled with chipped wood. Its not had any problem for years.

The way to normally tell is if its quite thick, look at the sides and they will appear stuck on.

If its a thin plank, then its more likely to be solid wood.

Linus is my fetish.

Haha nice!

So that tabletop is solid wood and not hallow?

The Linnmon is a solid slab of material, not hollow. Not planks of solid wood, but a processed wood material. (as most IKEA stuff) It is more than solid enough for my two monitors and a bunch of junk :P

Cool, thanks for the heads up man!

If it's not too much trouble, would you mind posting a picture of your desk setup?

I'd like to just have a clearer idea of what it might look like.

This is incorrect. The Linnmon is absolutely hollow. It uses their honeycombed paper/cardboard filler. It has real wood around the edges and where the legs attach, but the rest is honeycomb. Says so right on their product info:

Interesting, the product details on the Irish website doesn't show that information.

I suppose given the cost it makes sense.LEMON.png

However, looking at that weight now it makes even more sense.
