Hello! I have a Lenovo Y700 gaming laptop with 8GB of DDR3 RAM. (AMD-FX Edition). I  had to create a new user account due to issues I had with my other one. Everything was okay until I looked at Task Manager and realized it displays my memory speed as 800 MHz instead of its actual speed of 1600 MHz! This started to occur ONLY when I made the new account! I was wondering if this is a bug in Windows 10, or if something managed to happen with my memory when I made the new account for whatever reason. Thanks! (PS: I also ran a quick scan on Lenovo solution center (that scans the hardware) and everything passed the test. I still want to make sure, though).

Ddr stands for double data rate it should be that number x2 if it is running in dual/quad channel, if there is only a single dimm then it can only run at 800Mhz.

It displayed 1600mhz before I made the new user account, now it doesn't. Is this a W10 bug?

Is there two sticks of ram in the system?

A single DIMM stick does not make it run a half the speed.

As you said, DDR = Double Data Rate.

This means it operates twice (rising-edge and falling-edge) of each clock cycle.

The actual frequency is 800 MHz, but the effective frequency is 1600 MHz.

As for why Task Manager is showing 800 MHz, it could be a Windows 10 bug..but just to be sure, check with CPU-Z.

Post a screenshot of your Memory and SPD tabs.

CPU-Z reads the actual frequency (so you should see 800 MHz).

It's a Windows bug.

My DDR4 3200 displays at 2133 MHz within the task manager, which happens to correspond with the default memory speed for my CPU.  My guess is that Windows reports recommended default memory for any given CPU.

I keep getting error 0x5 (or something similar) when I try to install CPU-Z. Should I not worry about task manage?

You don't have to install CPU-Z; there is a stand-alone "no install" version.

What error are you getting exactly?

Don't worry about task manager.

Did you try running the no-install version?

Also, try running it as administrator -- that should solve the Error 0x5 problem.

It's the "ZIP" version from the CPU-Z webpage. Take your pick :P

Regular version: http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.77-en.zip

MSI Gaming skin: http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.77-msi-en.zip

AsRock OC Formula: http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.77-asr-en.zip

As a mentioned before, try running it as administrator. Instead of double-clicking to run it...

  1. Right-Click >> [blue and yellow shield icon] Run as administrator.
  2. An 'User Account Control' pop-up will appear.
  3. Click on "Yes."

CPU-Z still won't install. I took a photo of what task manager says. Does the stuff in the screenshot mean it is fine?

Yes, it's fine.  You have to double the reported speed because it's DDR.

I don't know why are you trying to INSTALL CPU-Z.

You do not install the ones I linked to you -- they just run.

Your pictures are not showing up; try uploading them to somewhere like Imgur, and link them back.
