High-end Laptop slim and light

Hi,

In about a month or so I am looking to buy a laptop.

Specs I'm after:

512SSD

i5/i7 preferably not ultramobile

8gb ram

14inches

Budget is about £1000 GBP or $1300 USD as the conversion currently is.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've had a look online but with no experience in laptop hardware I'm unsure what to get.

Cheers,

Nero

A 1080p screen and backlit keyboard? I don't want to be too specific, I'm adaptable to what is available on the market.

What about things like battery life? And by light, how light? Everyone has a different definition of light.

EDIT: Also, what will you be doing with the laptop?

4 Hours battery would be nice to have. Light as in 2.5kg or lower. I plan to use it for work and personal use, watching films, browsing the web. It needs to last though, thats why I'm spending so much for high end and I do a lot of travelling hence the 2.5kg limit. A gaming one like Wedsea040 mentioned above is ideal, thank you by the way, as it comes with a full cpu and compliment of ram, but i worry the gaming gpu adds weight and drains battery.

Your best bet might be a business-class machine like a thinkpad, I believe. But in this case I know not what is a good recommendation for you, since you want a rare thing; a higher end laptop without a dGPU.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Honestly depends on your use case. You'll be fine having a ULV chip for watching films and browsing the web. I would recommend something like a T460s or a E7470.

This is so true. There is ONE. And I mean literally fucking ONE laptop with a high end CPU and no dGPU. I've looked super fucking hard. It's the E5470. If you're looking to get work done on your CPU and need a good one (has the 6820HQ), this is the only option. Battery life is great and so is the build quality as it is part of Dell's business line up.

There's more than one. Clevo's N350Dx line are desktop socketed CPUs with iGPUs only, however they are rarely sold and going by Eurocom's prices, cost too much to fit into OP's budget.

OH? I should rephrase. Only mainstream one. Which Eurocom model is it?

Exactly. I suppose it's business-class, but even so... the price rivals P750DM2s and stuff, it's pointless.

Wow you guys are amazing. You're right too, why are high spec laptops not readily available without having that GPU attached?

The Dell E5470 is looking like a great contender, although only the i5 6440HQ model seems available on the UK site, which will do just fine. 8GB is a good starting point assuming there is a second slot available for future upgrades. All that in a nice 14" package, sleek black look (don't need anything flashy), and light at 1.76 kg / 3.88 lbs is amazing. Once ive added on a 4yr warranty it goes over budget but worth paying for I think. I see people go through a laptop a year because they buy cheap ones at £200 and then complain its slow, I'd rather not be one of those.

I'm still open to suggestions but Dell looks like a good choice right now. Don't get me wrong I'm not adverse to having a gaming laptop, my thinking was there would be better battery life, lighter and slimmer without, but perhaps that thinking is wrong. The razer blade is a little too expensive but I was looking at them initially.

All your help is much appreciated. I shall check back tomorrow.

Mate you can get it for 650 pounds with a 4 year warranty on Dell Outlet UK. Probably less with coupons. Don't buy it from the retail site. Dell outlet is the place to be. Remember that you can't upgrade anything and you'll have to check the exact specs you want. Word of advice, everything can be upgraded cept the CPU, Screen and other chassis related features. RAM and storage can be upgraded easily. So if you find one you like but not with the right ram or storage. Fuck it. DIY upgrade yourself. Doesn't break warranty.
