I was wondering what info do we have about intels net generation of processors, especially price, release dates and what models there will be. Also will I need a new motherboard or will a z170 work?

1) Look at some Kaby Lake leaks.

2) Yes, the Z170 MoBo will work as long as you have a DDR4 based one. DDR3 ones might not work.

Price is unknown, it will probably release early next year shortly after Zen. There was actually a leak that came out the other day that I will link below about speeds and the different SKUs. It seems fairly reliable, although its still only a rumour so take it with a grain of salt. And they should also be compatible with the same socket, 1151.

It'll be compatible with existing Z170 motherboards (after a Bios update) and it'll be a refinement of Skylake. It'll have a couple blings here and there, but nothing really noteworthy.

The important things (such as price, release date and performance) are a mystery, however.

Price is going to be slightly higher. performance is going to be slightly better. They both use the 1151 socket, so if motherboard companies release BIOS updates for Kaby Lake, then they should work just fine. However, Kaby lake has the Z270 chipset launching with it (and other 200 series chipsets I believe). They will not be launching an i3 in this lineup, and I believe this is set to launch sometime in late Q3 2016, although reports do vary on that point (as you can see from M8686's statement)

7700k will have 0.3ghz more than the 6700k. Not a big jump.
