Beginner.....still

I need some serious help. I'm a beginner, and I forgot to look up tutorials and whatnot. I need to build a PC that can run Blender smoothly, can play games smoothly (on at least medium) and can edit videos smoothly. I need a real tutorial, something that tells me what the parts I need are, and what they are for. i do not want a tutorial on how to put the parts together, I need something that tells me "This is a motherboard. A good one can be about ___ dollars. A motherboard is for _______" Help me out, I don't even know what RAM is.

You forgot to look up tutorials?

Dude, just google "parts of a computer".

As for prices, just look up a build guide for an editing rig that suits your price point.

I know I'll just forget. I want to know right now. I also am getting some money in less than a month, and I know I'll spend it all if I don't start learning now. You'd be surprised how much savings get thrown into a candy bar by me.

My budget is iffy, but I'm going to say.... don't laugh, I'm still a kid. $500

I know for sure I'm getting $100 in a few weeks, I have a ton of clothes to sell for about $50-60, and The amount of junk I have that would go for actual money is crazy. So yeah, $500. I have seen people build good ones for less than $200, and I won't give up this time.

Blender shouldn't be too big of an issue for $500, but AAA games at 1080p max settings isn't going to happen.

CPU: PC's Brain. It does all the heavy lifting. Performance CPU's are Intel (i5 or i7). $$$$ AMD is budget. $$$

Motherboard: Every other component connects to this. It literally connects parts so they can all be used in the system. Budget mobo: <$100. Gaming mobo: >$150

RAM: Random Access Memory: Basically your short term memory. More RAM = more chrome tabs. When you turn off the PC RAM forgets everything. $$

SSD/HDD: Storage. It stores everything: Windows, documents, games. SSD = fast. HDD = Slow. SSD = $$$ HDD = $

Graphics Card: Makes things look pretty. AMD = budget and Nvidia = performance. Price: $$$ to $$$$

Power Supply: This should be self explanatory. Price: $$

Case: Holds parts. Cheap case = $. Nice case = $$$

CPU cooler: Cools the cpu. Lower temps = good speed and long life. Air cooler: $ or $$. Water Cooler = $$$

I agree mostly,
I5 and 7 are not the only performance CPU's, ZEN is just around the corner and I hope to be pleasantly surprised by the results.

AMD does not always mean budget in regards to both CPU and GPU (as your post states). Generally AMD means better bang for buck when put up against similarly priced Nvidiia alternatives. Remember that there are low tier NNviidia cards and there are high tier AMD cards. The reason many people 'go green' is that Nvidia tended to run cooler than AMD in previous CPU and GPU generations.

Motherboards are  essential but need not be expensive, $80 Mobos are often enough for light gaming

DDR3 RAM goes for about $5 per GB (in Australia) and 8 GB is all you need for light to medium-high level gaming. The next step is 16 and that's just overkill.

Cases have no performance additions to performance other that extra airflow, don't spend over $60 on a budget case, Carbide Spec 02/03 look good and are really cheap.

For storage, I would suggest to get a 120-240 GB SSD (about $60-80 for a cheap one) for use as a boot device and a 1TB HDD for storage (WD blue is probably your best bet). Note that HDD's aren't slow, SSD's are just very fast.

So yeah, that's a bit clearer for you OP

So far I've done my research on CPU's first. I'm getting an AMD FX-6300. It seems good, and it's in the price range (I'm probably getting more than $500 now)

Read my above post, AMD cpu's are 3 year old tech now and have really become obselete for new builds, the new lineup is coming soon and if I were you I would hold out until then as both Intel and AMMD's CPU offerings should drop in price at that time.

To get you through until then I could suggest getting a laptop GPU adapter, it will let you use a desktop GPU in your laptop, which should give you better gaming performance until you have your PC sorted (then you can use the GPU in the PC)

As far as GPU's go I think an RX480 could find a home inside your PC

I completely agree with you. I made my post in 99% laziness. Im actually really excited for Zen. And im aware that both the green and red teams have great 'budget' and 'bang for your buck' gpus. i really just kinda generalized everything and applied a nice layer of stereotypes. xD

Ignore all the quotes underneath, that was a mistake. Just to be clear, a GPU, replaces a CPU? As in, a GPU goes in the same place a CPU would? So I should not buy a CPU? Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot....

CPU controls processing (making things happen)
GPU controls graphics (making things pretty)

You need both
