I have no idea why my card is being so hot on idle. Normally it hovers around 29 degrees to 32 degrees, but now its getting up to 40? The red bar in PrecisionX (Picture 1) is also normally all the way down and not filled at all.

I ran MalwareBytes once, restarted after removing all the stuff it said to, ran it again and it came up as 0 viruses found. Problem is still here.

The reason why it's so "hot" is because the clocks are high, even on idle. This could be caused by a number of reasons, multi-monitor setups and having the power preference set to maximum performance being 2 of them that immediately come to mind. Have your card downclock and temps will go down.

With that said, though, I wouldn't worry about it. Not one bit. 40C is perfectly fine. To be honest, your card shouldn't even be idling in the first place, consider that a bonus.

Mutli Monitor setup? If so, even with low load, your still ramping up the core clocks much higher than it would with a single monitor and will cause the temps to be warmer than normal. Same if your using higher refresh rate monitors too.

You're right, I didn't see the screenshots. If you have Google Chrome installed, try ending the Crash Handler tasks (don't remember what specifically they're called) and see if that helps.

Crash Handler isnt running (I configured chrome settings so that it didnt do that. I also tried ending chrome completely (in task manager) and the clock speed didnt change.

I agree, this is most likely the cause.

Ok so I was totally watching the JayzTwoCents video on overclocking pascal cards when I saw the "change it to Maximum Performance". And now that I changed it back to "optimal power", its back to normal. Guess this thread was just me being stupid then. Sorry about that :/
