First the rig I overclocked with:

AMD FX-8350

BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 3

Corsair VS 650 (I know I have to replace it asap)

Corsair Carbide 200r

I know this rig is far from perfect for it's price, so don't tell my what I should have bought instead, please :)

So I overclocked my FX-8350 for the first time today and I was wondering about a thing:

Is it normal that the clock goes down for a short moment when using prime95? (eg. from 4.5 ghz to 1.6 ghz) And if not: It it that bad?

Yea if it does that, that usually means something is wrong.

Check temps and make sure your cpu doesn't thermal throttle and the cpu VRM isn't overheating, common thing on low/mid-end boards with an FX 8350

maybe the temperature is too high so the cpu throttles?

Temps were at 57°C on the socket, so not too crazy. AMD officially supports up to 62°C...

VRM's could technically be overheating since it's an Fx-chipset. However, I'm using a M5a99x board that was not really that cheap (130€. I know it's far from high-end, but also definitly not low-end). Also decent airflow it provided.

I personally think it's my PSU, since the voltage it provides throttels a lot... Could that be the problem?
