AMD FX-9590 or Intel Core i7-4960X?

Just out of curiosity, which is better, the FX 9590 or the i7-4960X? I know they are both expensive (>$900), but I am researching these two high end processors.

yes but clocks does not make a cpu faster !

Its just a FX8350 that is clocked to 5ghz on ONE CORE

 

The i7 is better value

And since the price drops they are in completely different price ranges..

You can get the 9590 for sub $600 now.

the 9590 is considerably cheaper since price drops took effect. $350 or so from last check unless you live in Australia where your going to get shafted on price.

 

They aren't even competing CPU's really

I just looked... First one I found was like $649 and then the second one was $799  <_<

I don't think they are selling them anymore :P

Pccg has the 9370 for $300 with an H80 equivalent which isn't too bad.

yes, but why not R9 series and fx-4100 if he is a gamer?

4100 would be a serious bottleneck :P

Yes, the 8320 is just a lower binned, lower clocked 8350 but can usually hit the same clocks with a lower end cooler

pure gaming-i5 £160+board
gaming and rendering-i7 £260+board
10% slower gaming equal rendering for 1/3rd of the price-8320 oc'd £116+£100 board
gaming and rendering/encoding regardless of cost-3930k (its no worse for gaming than any other sandybridge) £450+£300board

your choice is 8320 and a cooler and overclock-£150(give or take)
or 3930k+cooler-£500

Don't get either of those, grab a 4930K instead, the performance difference is less than minimal, but you're paying twice as much for the 4960X.
If you really want to go all out on your machine I'd really advise you to spend money somewhere else, like a swag case, sleeving, more graphics horsepower, a custom water-cooling loop etcetera.
For all intents and purposes the 4960X is exactly the same as the 4930K, it's almost as if you took $500 and burned it off.

Plus 9590s are now available through retail bundled with high-end liquid coolers for $389.

What? The 9590 is not even a third of the price of an i7 4960x, the i7 is a terrible value.

EDIT: The graph above shows this very well: almost same performance in bf4 for a fraction of the price
