Note 5 VS Note 7?

xnoobftw

Hey guys.. I've been using my LG G3 a lil over a year now and im looking to change phone.

Since Samsung's Note 7 is about to release (19th August) i was thinking of either getting it or Note 5...

Is ~$200USD worth the price premium of getting the Note 7 over the Note 5?

Or should i just go with the Note 5?

note 7

you're getting another year of software updates, killer camera, better battery, microsd, more spen features, more ram and iirc LTE-A if thats in your area.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

On paper note 5 and note 7 doesnt seem that much different... And 200usd is a painful investment esp when im a student xD Are all of that really worth 200usd?

iirc new generation of cpu and gpu, LTE-A is the next generation and provides way better speeds..

although i didnt watch any videos on it.

it depends on your usage if it is worth it or not.

I've got the Note5 right now and I plan to pick up the Note7 on the 19th.  The lack of MicroSD support on the Note5 has been driving me crazy even though I bought the 64GB Note5.  Bigger battery, MicroSD, and improved S-Pen with finer tip are enough for me.

Hmmm is the cpu/gpu a huge improvement from note 5?

And LTE-A is how fast it access the 4g speeds?

Woah wait they brought back microsd card support on note 7? :o I was concerned about how the dual edge screen will suck...

they did bring back microsd card support.

lte-a has 1gb/s therotetical maximum iirc. in a couple of years it might be deployed in your area by your carrier (its already deployed in my area)

honestly, i dont know. but its always better to have a better cpu and gpu.

but what is your usage? photo taking? gaming? social media?

Just social media, messaging and watching tons of videos... Not much photo taking/videography etc

Would it have issues playing 1080p videos with high bitrates? (for both Note 5 and Note 7) My G3 cannot handle 1080p videos D:

Yes, they did.  Some of the US carriers are throwing in a 256 GB MicroSD with the purchase of the Note7.

Then note 5, although the battery life is terrible from what i've seen (previously owned the note 5)

it has 0 issues playing back 1080p/60fps or even 1440p/60fps videos from youtube.

The Note5 plays anything I throw at it.  I would expect the same from the Note7.

I can confirm that the battery life is not great on the Note5.  It got noticeably worse with the 6.0.1 upgrade.

Sadly they are giving 2 crappy lenses for preordering of the Note 7

Battery life is terrible? :o How bad? What pushed me to upgrade was because my G3 screen is glitching (i suspect motherboard defect) whenever there are subtitles and crappy battery life...(G3 doesnt even last a day)

Not youtube videos! (Those are cut down by alot in terms of bitrate)

More like anime/movies/GAME OF THRONES :P

How's the battery life? Does it degrade alot over time?

haven't used it that much, only as a temp device as my 6s+ was in repair.

haven't watched videos out of youtube on it.

battery life for me was 1/8th a day (although maximum brightness, outside on HSPA+ while playing vain glory)

music playback is ~4 hours when 50% for me.

edit:

watching movies are great on it!

Mine hasn't degraded at all, but since the upgrade, the battery no longer lasts a full day.

Woah sounds like you own alot of phones xD

1/8th of a day?! That sucks.. Even my G3 last more than that... Btw is it even a sensible upgrade from a G3 to note 5? Or should i shoot for the stars and go for a note 7? (rip money)

Upgrade to the latest software?

sounds, but no.

iPhone 3G -> 4 -> 6s+ -> Note 5 -> 6s+

;) skipping a few back and fourth between the 3G and 4 but still, you get it.

edit:

but heres the little part about it:

(although maximum brightness, outside on HSPA+ while playing vain glory)

a full 20min game on my 6s+ takes ~10% for me at the brightest, on wifi

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Would it be sensible to upgrade from a LG G3 then? TBH my phone aint THAT bad... It's just the glitch annoys the hell outta me

Hmmm so the battery life is still respectable?

I've called LG and they said that it cost 33SGD (25~usd) just to diagnose it... That's before spareparts cost as well... Sounds like it'll cost wayyyy too much

I probably should just sell it away...
