I got a GTX 980 G1 Gaming GPU. I realize the GTX1080 doesn't really offer me 2x the performance, but I guess the Titan X(P) actually does. Now it is a $1200 card and if the rumors are right about next year's Volta, then this Titan is basically outdated at launch. I am hoping to see a GTX1080Ti and jump to it but honestly with how Nvidia released that Pascal it has really been confusing whether to upgrade or not to upgrade to this generation when honestly to me it looks like a "Maxwell on speed".

You don't buy a Titan for the performance. You buy it because it's the best of the best, and cuz ya got da cash!

Are you happy with the performance of the 980? If so, don't upgrade, if you aren't then maybe wait it out for the 1080 ti I guess. Always waiting for the newest product is not a good idea as you know within 8 months or something a new thing will rule supreme again :/

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

well, the last titan x didn't decrease in performance either and is still a very capable card... and i have to agree with @Imakuni that if you buy a titan, you don't do this because performance per dollar. But such an upgrade only is worth if you are using at least 1440p, but 4k is kinda a must have.

and even when volta is out, the titan still can run pretty much anything at high settings

Then buy your monitor now and the GPU at the end of the year rather than going the other way around.

well then monitor first and then new card. Even the 980 should be able to run games on this monitor

EDIT: well seems like we both had the same thoughts @Imakuni:D

Ok then here is what I am going to do. Ive decided to buy it in the end of the year cuz it may be on a promotion. So what I will do is try to play with the GTX980 and then upgrade to Volta. It will be too late in the end of the year to upgrade on to Pascal when Volta is around the corner.
