Upgrading router

I currently have the netgear nighthawk x6 router and I was thinking about upgrading to a ASUS RT-AC5300, I have plenty of money to blow, but I still wouldn't mind saving 384 dollars if it won't help in the SLIGHTEST. Ok so here is what I will be using it for... I already know it will extend my range throughout the large house quite a bit according to reviews, what I don't know is since I plug my pc in directly via ethernet will it at all decrease my latency or increase my speed or increase the quickness of browser loading response?

 

And my pc is very high end gtx 1080 and i7 6800k and all that, so I don't need an upgrade there, but I need to know if this router would be worth it. I do get only 1 bar in the dinning room with 5ghz and 2 bars with 2.4ghz band on my smartphone. And the only way to install a range extender would be to drill a hole in my ceiling which I'd prefer not to do. Anyways in summary...

 

1. Will it help my range enough (according to online comparison and reviews yes, but you tell me)

2. Will it help with my direct ethernet connection WHATSOEVER? (latency or speed, or router processor speed possibly affecting and thus helping browser loading times or something)

3. Is there any cool stuff I can do with this router that I can't with my other, that a gamer would care about?

 

My internet spee*d is ca*ble it is at 89 m*b*ps but I'm paying for 75, idk man idk. And yes it is co*mc*ast. (I don't want them knowing)

With that budget there is NO reason to buy a gateway like that. Go check out the edgerouter lite and UAP-AC-LR. That combo is unmatched by consumer gear.

 

Get multiple UAP-AC-LRs and you will be set by far for range.

The only way to speed up page loading would be to setup a proxy cache, which is very complicated and even I havn't been able to figure that out.

With the EdgeRouter, you can enable fq_codel, which will keep latencies down while the connection is being used by downloads. You can also do lots more enthusiast stuff with it.

on the  UAP-AC-LR do I have to run ethernet to it to attatch it to my current router?

You can route the cables along the power lines and use a new wall plate.

Yes. It's a great way to get things wired and wireless where you need them. See if you can by searching along the lines and the most you'll have to do is cut away some of the sheetrock and add the new wall plate and box.

router is in basement and you use ethernet to connect it to pc, does that mean the pc is in the basement? if not and if the pc is somewhere further from basement, it might be worth getting second router

 

other than that you can try to get some router with firmware before the (FCC?) wifi power regulation and max it out? not sure how much this would help also a security risk tho
