i just got a free q6600 from my dad's work and i want to learn how to water cool with it. I am obviously going to overclock but i don't know how far i i can push it. how far con you push a q6600?

Most of them get into the high 3GHz range, some can go up past 4Ghz though, all depends on the silicon lottery.
