Should I upgrade from an 8350 to I5 6600

Hello, I have acquired some of the mysterious and mystical dosh people speak of in fairy tales and i was wondering if my rig would benefit from an upgrade. 

 

I am currently Running

 

CPU:AMD FX 8350

RAM: 16 GIG Dual Channel DDR3

Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P

GPU: GTX 1080 Founders Edition

 

 

I would be looking to upgrade to

 

CPU: Intel core I5 6600

RAM:  G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB DDR4 2400

Motherboard:  ASRock Z170 Pro4

GPU: Still the GTX 1080 Founders. 

 

 

Now i know my 8350 bottlenecks my GPU pretty damn hard. So i was mainly wondering if this upgrade would result in a potental performance gain of at least 20 FPS in most games that aren't optimized like garbage.

From the videos that I've seen just on how hard the RX-480 gets hit with the wiffle bat on AMD cpu's I would say most definitely you would see massive gains since the RX-480 usually sees a 15+ fps improvement when paired with a strong intel chip..

Yeah the better IPC performance and more efficient architecture of the i5 will generate more fps with a lower temperature :) 

 

I'd go for a 6700K though... the i5 just doesn't sound right next to a GTX 1080 :P but I digress.

See I wanted to go for the 6700K but after getting my 1080... My wallet needs that small respite to actually buy the vidya gamez. 

I figured the I5 6600 would do the job though, instead of my 8350 which chokes on everything and their mother. At 1080P, sitting next to my 1080. And yes next purchase after the CPU mobo upgrade is 1440P monitor :P

Your MINFPS and AVGFPS values will go up in many titles, which is what your after.

1080p on a GTX1080 is rofl @ GPU usage on MANY CPU's not just the FX, but DSR helps that pushing more pixels offsetting that, but @ 1080p/1440p/4K your still better off with a modern i5 (Higher Frequency the better) as far as better MINFPS values go in a range of game titles with still a slight bump to AVGFPS values as well.

Your GPU usage will be ridiculously low at 1080p. You can use Nvidia DSR in control panel to push the GPU to render the game at higher resolutions downsampled to 1080p. Kindof like SSAA. Furthermore, the bottleneck cause by the CPU will go down if you run it at a higher resolution :)

If your happy with the 1080p performance , and lower GPU usage, then thats fine too, but we all define "playable" and "justified performance of 'said' hardware" differently.

 

But its subjective, if you want the most out of your GPU, and trying out above 1080p resolutions and performance testing, then enable DSR and use a higher resolution. Say for example, in a certain game, on average, your CPU bottleneck had you at 45-50fps AVG, but GPU was capable of much more... (seen by reviews n such testings)

You would use DSR and use a higher resolution, you'd still be around the 45-50fps (still likely bottlenecked) but your GPU usage goes up due to pushing a higher pixel count. If thats what you want out of your machine...
