Well I bought a house a couple of months ago. Right now I have to do a LOT of work to get it to where I want it. First off, It is a 3 bedroom (kinda small), 2 bath really large living room and a really big kitchen. First thing on my agenda is mud the dry wall to fix the holes and you can see the nails since they didn't do the dry wall right so have a long process on fixing it. Second it to paint most room and to lay the flooring in the front half of the house. Next, I will be installing Ethernet though out the house (mainly to the master bedroom, office, and to the living room). Also will be doing IP cameras over POE so will have to get a nice switch. Looking at a Netgear ProSafe 16 port but still looking for a router that can cover the whole house since I will be installing a metal roof and my phone signal wont be that great. If anyone can recommend one let me know (personally looking at at the Asus RT-AC5300). Next, I will be installing a new breaker panel since the one I have now is full and I want to do a 20 Amp service to my office for my server and main computer. Also, do a new range top in the kitchen so I can get rid of the gas range since I do not want that. Lastly I will be putting on a new roof and swapping it over to a metal roof since it will last longer and I love the look of a metal roof on a house. Not sure if I missed anything or not but will be a work in progress as I go along with this project. If you have any questions just ask, wanted to share my experiences with you as a first home owner show my build log of the place. Thought it would be a change of pace form the computer build logs.

Got my new Fridge.

Running all LED lights in the whole house. Slowly swapping them over as I go from room to room.

This is what I started today. Tearing up the floor since I had to get under the old section of the house to jack up the floor since it was slanted really really bad. Also this section is a 3 inch diffference from the old section of the house to the addition so I will be sloping it  so I will not have a step. Also this was the old bathroom in the house and all of the pipe was still there added with the central air.

Dad under the house since I wanted the Toilet in the master Bathroom moved over so I can add in a bigger vanity for the sink ( will post those pictures there tomorrow since I did not take those yet.

Got my Bamboo flooring laid in the office and some holes covered up and it will be ready for paint.

Well paint some of the room and see a wet spot on the floor so we took out some of the dry wall and see it was all soaken wet and mold was starting to form so we had to patch the roof so it would stop leaking in. Still have a lot more roofing to do but that can wait till later this week after it stop raining.

This is the hallway to the front door. Going to stop 3 foot in front of the door and lay some tile so my bamboo wont get wet in the winter time lol. Plus it will look a little nicer with the tile laid down.

This is the master bedroom (I know it is not very big) looking into the hallway for the front door and on the other side of that is my office.

Master bedroom (there is a walk in closet as well)

Started to run my ethernet around the house and setup the server rack to see what it would look like with it in its corner. (As you can see I have the wall still opened but that blue box is for the living room where the tv goes and it will be mounted so I will be adding in another outlet for the tv so I do not have cords hanging down from it to the outlet at the bottom.
cUq2Noi.jpg

This is still the office but the ladder to the attic which has a room the is dry walled so I might do something with that a little later down the road since Its not a critical thing right now. (maybe a dungeon room but in the attic?)
GOgYYNu.jpg

Will be updating this as I move along with the house and I cannot be there at every moment to take pictures since I have to work a lot to afford this place and do what I want to do with it, but I will update it weekly so people can see the progress that is coming along with it. Right now I am trying to finish the front of the house since the back half (the living room and kitchen are) is where all of our supplies is at and is kind of a mess since tools and more bamboo flooring is still sitting there ready to be laid down.

  • 3 weeks later...

Update:

Yeah I know it has been awhile since the last update but it does take awhile to redo a house, but now it looks like I accomplished something since the last time I posted something. Not too much more to go now. Almost done with flooring besides the utility room and another bedroom. Have to lay some carpet for the living room and do some trim, new oak doors ( just little things). Currently in the final stretch for the house then I will be done. Ran all of my Ethernet, new wires for my TV's in my bedroom and living room. RG6 coax cable was put into place so I don't need to have Time Warner drill holes in my wall and make the cables look like shit and hard to hide them so I did that myself since I know I can make it look right. Still have to do a new breaker panel so I can add some more electrical that has to be done, might do that this weekend if I get a chance to do it. But in the mean time, this was a little update for the project and lots more to come in the year like finishing my Office since I want that done before I move in.

Spoiler

Here is the Master bathroom picture of the toilet getting moved over and how much more room there will be to put in a bigger counter for the sink. (moved about 3ft)

This is the hallway that we torn out not to long ago to jack up the house and move the plumbing for the toilet and we finished laying the flooring.

Guest Bathroom cabinets are now finished (looks a lot better in person).

The flooring is ran a little past the kitchen and to make it look better we did an angle cut as you can see and it just looks way better than what the original plan was.

Starting to redo the roof so it doesnt leak anymore. Still have to order the metal roof yet but going to wait till it cools down a bit since it will take a long time to lay down since I have 4 valleys.

Ran my power, HDMI, Aux, RG6 cable to the hole in the wall for my tv that will be placed right next to it so I do not have cords hanging down to make it look terrible.

Looking Cozy

I've heard horror stories of TW or their sub contractors straight up drilling through hardwood floor rather than the wall because it was easier.

Silverstone FT-05: 8 Broadwell Xeon (6900k soon), Asus X99 A, Asus GTX 1070, 1tb Samsung 850 pro, NH-D15

Resist!

Yeah I do not want my flooring ruined over it so I am taking the extra time to do it myself and make it right. I will have a junction box set up in the attic so they can just tap right into that and it will make it easier on them as well so they cant mess anything up. Hopefully it will be a straight forward set up for them if they can figure it out. Have a lot more work to do on the house and a big thanks  goes out to my dad for helping me make this happen.
