In the near future I am going for a gaming pc build but I am confused with either I should get a faster gpu or cpu. I can either get a gtx 1070 and i5 6600 (non k version) or gtx 1060 and i7 6700 (non k version). This is going to be my first build so what would be a better choice for me and with would I be able to do some decent 1440p gaming or I should get a 1080p monitor??

Do the 6600/1070 for 1440p gaming and the 6700/1060 for 1080p

i5 is a 20% bottleneck on a 1070 though you most likely could get away with 1440p. The 1060 you don't really need an i7 for but you could upgrade in the future for a 1080 or something. Processor is prob the cheaper upgrade so I would go with 1440p with 1070 and i5.

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

Thanks for your opinions and yeah, maybe an i5 and 1070 would be a better option for me

it depend how often you plan to upgrade...the 6700 will be relevant for gaming a lot longer than the core i5...and CPU's tend to last a good 3 to 5 years and maybe more where as graphics cards you usually upgrade them at least every 2 years or so...

GTX 1060 will fall short at 1440p though...and i do not recommend a 1080p monitor at this time that's for sure...so i don't know.

You can always upgrade a graphics card in the future, but you'll never upgrade your processor. Unless you know exactly what you want and what type of performance to expect from the games you play, it's always better to get the higher end processor.

Also, NVIDIA is re-releasing the Pascal lineup in 14nm or something weird like that. I would wait to see what's up and not invest too much into this current lineup.

Yea for 1440p u can go with i5+1070 because 1070 wont send as much data to your CPU as it would at 1080p (it can play maxed out games at 120-140fps...insane and i5s have hard time handling it). i5-6600would be much better option. It shouldnt add too much to the price to the point u cant afford it.

With 1060 you wouldnt max out any AAA game at 1440p with 60 average fps.

U said near future, dont forget about BLACK FRIDAY deals (especially if u are from US) u can save a lot of money because storage and ram go on sale like crazy (those SSDs man !).

14nm should be Volta, article can be wrong or maybe Nvidia is hiding soemthing. But die shrink means faster performance so I doubt it would be Pascal re-introduced.

Yeah, I can see them doing a rebrand but not while the current cards sell faster than they can make them. No one is that stupid.

But not THAT stupid. If Vega cuts into their sales, maybe then. But while they can keep selling out months after launch? Naaaah

How about this: they struggle to produce them so why not update the architecture and increase the price... Its not like they intorduce new line up while they have stock of old one. Their stock is so low they sell it all.

Just speculation. Sounds stupid either way :D

They're producing them. Just without any competition they sell fast. But something caused their stock to jump 5 bucks, and it was because of the announcement in London. So waiting until the news is known isn't bad advice. Of that I can agree.

No, if u listened to reviewers they know that  AIBs only receive a pallet or two of them, not in masses like it was with previous gen GPUs. The supply is way lower.

Not from what I've seen. From what I've seen people are going off store shelves, not how many units are being sold.
