Unless you intend to fill your 8TB drive with games & programs I would go with the NAS every time. There are so many extra functions you can perform with an always on home server/NAS. Also if you do go the NAS route, consider some more exotic raid arrays other than R1. Raid 5 , Raid 6 and Raid 10. work extremely well in NAS units whilst still offering some level of redundancy.
