1060 or 1070? 1080p 144 htz

hey i want a new gpu to with my rig, 6600k, 4x4 ddr4, 240mm aio loop, gtx 770m h170 fatal1ty board. I want nvidia and so a 1060 would be pretty good, but i cant put 2 together later when they start to get out dated to boost performance. or i could get 1070 and not need to upgrade for ages, but still have the abilty to put 2 in there. plz help. I will only be doing 1080p gaming but atm i have a 60 htz monitor(1080p) overclocked to 74 htz. I will be investing in a 144 htz one soonish, I play lots of csgo and bf4, and bf1 when it launches.

If you really don't want to upgrade ANYTHING than get two 1070 and SLI them or else just get single gtx 1070.

The i5 will limit the 1070 at 1080p in CPU-heavier games (bottleneck), especially if you won't overclock the CPU on the H170 board.

A general rule of thumb, GTX 1070 = 1440p, GTX 1060 = 1080p.

If you're looking into dual-GPU setups, I suggest you grab an RX 480 / R9 390X and grab a FreeSync monitor along with that. Those are significantly cheaper than the GSync ones and the stutter-free experience is definitely worth it.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

i would get the gtx 1070 because sli isnt available with the gtx 1060 so unless you are playing dx12 game that supports multi-gpu. if you are trying to reach 144 htz at 1080p you wont be able to reach that 144 fps in modern AAA titles with the 1060. now the real question is do you care about that extra fps over 60 because if you dont then with then get the 1060. if you do then the 1070 would not only be better for your preferences but also better for future proof

actually if you look at the performance difference between the i5 6600k and the i7 6700k the difference isnt that much and actually an overclocked i5 gives basically identical performance as the stock clocked i7 6700k in most games. you will definitely see a performance difference between an i5 6600k with a 1070 vs it paired with a 1060.

Actually, no, that's why I said all of that.

Look here:

This is a significant difference, look at the frametimes with the i5s and the drops that occur there.

he literally says exactly what i just said. if you look at the overclocked i5 vs the stock clocked i7 they are identical at most parts. that is not a significant bottleneck and wouldn't justify not getting a gtx 1070. i mean you are saying that he should get sli rx 480s instead and you think the i5 wont bottleneck vs the i7 the same amount as it would with the 1070?

You still ignore frametime issues and stuttering. That is an issue for those that want an optimal gaming experience.

but you are suggesting 2 rx480s with his i5.... do you honestly think that would have less issues than a gtx 1070 with his i5? also dont post a video that use a different i5 than the one op is using because its not relevant.

I'm suggesting a single, more powerful card. He asked about dual-GPU setups, in which case two 480s is a viable option.

If you knew something more about tech, you'd know that it's irrelevant whether it's 4690K or 6600K. The performance difference is up to 9% in favor of the 6600K depending on the overclock. They are literally nearly the same. 4690K at 4,5gHz as in the video is like 6600K at 4,3gHz. Oh such a huge difference.

they are completely different architectures. you might as well compare it with a first generation i5 at that point. i can see that you clearly wont ever agree with me so this argument is pointless. op can decide for himself whos advice they want to take.

Yeah, a fairly known member with 4,5K post through 14 months or someone with 15 that joined 6 hours ago.

And no, it's not relevant that the architecture is different. The performance is what matters and the difference is up to 9%. So around 200mhz in that case (with that overclock on the 4690K)

get a 1070...and for your monitor upgrade make sure you go with a 1440p monitor ;)

you'll thank me later...that's the expensive route but you get a premium gaming experience that is well worth it...i can't wait to run BF1 on my gaming rig.

again this argument is pointless because you will never agree with me. will an i7 give more performance paired with an 1070 vs a i5 with a 1070? yeah. does it really matter enough to make it not worth getting a 1070 vs a 1060? in my opinion no.
