Hi I am building a PC and I was just wondering how good my PC would be for gaming and any suggestions on how to make it better. But I am on a budget so I can't buy like a 1080 or something like that.

CPU: AMD Fx 8350

GPU: AMD r9 280x

16 GB of RAM

Mobo: MSI 970

Switch platforms for an i5 or something.

OK thx how much better is a core i5 than a Fx 8350

Night and Day - Land slide.

Honestly quite a lot. If memory serves, an i3 6100 will often beat the 8350.

Because I like the 8 cores because I want to record and do video editing

All of that is still fine on a 4c/4t CPU.

I would stick with the 8350 if you use the threads the 8350 is better then an i5 when the threads are used.

I would suggest getting an ssd.

Then you should've mentioned that. That changes things.

I'd suspect it'd be just as fine with a 4c/4t CPU though.

Yeah, games favor higher single core performance

Well the i5 6500 will be fine for games, but I'd be under the impression that it'd also be fine for recording/editing video.
