Noctua NH-D15 Positioning

thanks to the help of LTT and teksyn forums ive made my mind up on my replacement cooler since my h100i is dying. and since i got my temps and oc undercontrol again thanks to the help of community,  using air wont be a big problem.

now my only concern is this, i have clearence 360 degrees around my cpu since my ram positioning and having a pci lane i do not use before my gpu setup.

 

does having a aircooler say side on cause problems? since my MB lays flat like a test bench in my case and has cooling from all directions ... what i mean is instead of having the fans operating horizontal i want to run them vertical..

like in the images [ used MS paint as PS is not installed ]

Having it the way you have it in the top picture which I assume is how you have it mounted now is the most ideal positioning. I am fairly certain that is also the orientation that is expected when the developers develop the items.

yea i have a bad way of explaining things. ok so since im yet to have this arrive / picked up in store i found some image online and did some bad ms paint work. so this is not how it would exactly look case and all.

basically the cooling profile would be the same only rotated 90degrees on the motherboard and the gpu shouldnt be a blockage due to high etc.

Are you sure it woul fit? D15 has good ram clearance when its positioned normal way. But for horizontal pos you meed ran to be further away. Like slots 2&4, or low profile. Another thing is PCIe slot blocking. Not problem if you only have GPU as you can move that few slots down. Third issue is mobo itself. Are there anything toward top what would interfere or will it fit under top case fans etc.

 

While writing this I noticed that pic isn't D15. Looks more like U14S which I have and which indeed can easily be mounted horizontally. I'll add pic later. This is D15:

Here's my U14S with horizontal positioning. RAM is RipjawX DDR3. Fits fine under fins.
