Should I upgrade from AIO to custom?

Tldr: only able to get 6700k @4.7ghz stable @1.48v leaving me with 20celius temp headroom when under stress testing etc or in very cpu intensive games.

 

With my ram at 3200Mhz xmp.

My cooler currently is a Corsair gtx h100i with 2 sp120 fans running on a fan curve that's only really aggressive when I hit 80c.

 

My question is this.  Do I upgrade to a different Aio? Or go custom loop ? Or God forbid aircooling if that runs better temps.  Advice would be great.

The reason that you aren't getting as good of an overclock as some other people is because your chip isn't as good as theirs, you can't really do much more unless you want to blow $500+ on a custom loop

I plan on upgrading from an AIO to a custom watercooling loop. I am aware that it does come at a price, and won't do much for improving overclocks. The only two reasons why I would go from an AIO to a custom loop would be to lower the temps of my 5930K CPU at 4.7 GHz at 1.3625 volts, as those temps shoot for the sun when I start rendering, and to make my system more quieter by turning down the RPM of the fans when I get a 480mm rad for the CPU loop, which is complete overkill.

My 6700k is 4.7 at 1.48v I hit about 80 - 92 celius when under Max or 90% utilisation. What r your temps might make me feel better haha

Core #1 at 4.2 GHz at 1.15 volts are around the 50's with gaming, and up to 62º centigrade on the same core.

 

Also can you please fix the quote, as I corrected a sentence

 

And can you even run that frequency at a lower voltage? That seems to be much for a 6700K

its on a very thin line of stable / unstable up or down. makes me wonder if i need to go to 4.6 instead.

Sadly a better cooler wont really help you there. In terms of overclocking you play the so called 'silicone lottery' with every chip. Intel doesnt care cause the chip runs well on their stock speeds and thats what the chip needs to do in their benchmarks.
