Can't boot Windows XP from USB

Hi everyone,

I have a Windows XP ISO.

However, even after using a special program to burn the ISO onto my flash drive (in this case, I used a program called ISOtoUSB), Windows XP still won't boot. This is an old laptop from 2004. My dad needs it for work since he uses really old software for work.

When I boot from the USB (after changing boot sequence with F12), the system says:

"An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press any key to restart."

And this is despite the fact that I have the USB drive plugged in with the bootable Windows XP ISO.

I appreciate any help anyone can give in advance!

Pirating software isn't allowed, for your problem. Just run on a disc, saves you time.

Why can't you just download windows XP off Microsoft that is the inactivated edition and then do some things in the registry to look like it's activated? It's way more safe then pirating.

I thought since Windows XP is completely abandoned from Microsoft that it wouldn't be against terms of service. Microsoft doesn't even sell or distribute Windows XP anymore.

Tell your dad to stop using old software and look for alternatives if his "work" is so important to him. This is a way easier approach than to use old crap with many security vulnerabilities for "work". Or as an alternative run it in a VM that's closed of from the internet on a newer laptop. I would recommend installing a Linux distro of your taste on that old laptop to give it a new live.

It's pirating cause your activating the OS by doing a registry mod. Pirating is not Pirate bay.

Ok, but your not installing anything in the registry, you just have to delete some stuff.

This is a moot point. Windows no longer provides a download of Windows XP since about a year ago.

I would gladly download and buy a key if I could.

You can always buy a key by calling Microsoft.

Or just use keyfinder to look for old key.

Yeah, I could probably scrounge up the key that was already purchased
