RX470 Thermal/Fan Issues

Go to solution Solved by ThatOCguy,

I'm going to mark this topic solved now as for some reason forcing the fan to change manually with gpu tweak then setting it back to auto made the card start behaving, god knows why or what was happening but problem solved for now

Hi all,

So I just got myself a RX470 and it unfortunately has some issues, it's not a temperature problem and it is. Basically under load the fan on the card will make no attempt what so ever to speed up to decrease heat it's stuck at it's idle speed of 840 RPM despite the GPU reaching 88C before I chickened out and stopped stressing it regardless even in games the issue is causing the card/my system to just turn off. I've tried adjusting maximum, target and minimum as well as the frequency threshold on the card through AMDs Wattman and the card just doesn't respond to any commands you send to it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers several times with a fresh download each time and am currently using AMDs hotfix driver, there's no fan control utility or overclocking utility installed either just to make sure there are no conflicts with the fan control. Is there anything else I can try or is it an RMA job now?

Thanks

Download MSI afterburner and change the fan speed manually.

Just trying an older driver at the moment in fact it's the one Sapphire puts in the box as Afterburner wouldn't let me adjust anything all the settings were blank and couldn't be changed

Just a quick edit I've tried the older driver but MSI Afterburner is still unable to control any aspect of the card, are there any other ideas I could try?
