No they need to be both from Nvidia/AMD. And Nvidia doesn't allow two different card (e.g the 960 and the 950) to be paired, on the other hand AMD sometimes does but only if they are based on the core (e.g R9 290 and the R9 290X).

Well how do they compare in price and are you welling to wait for the 1050? (Also wait for more benchmarks to come for the Rx 460)

DirectX 12 has a feature called explicit multi-adapter that does allow you to use two or more mismatched video cards together, even Nvidia and AMD cards. It requires the game developer to go out of their way to enable the feature, and it will probably remain rare for quite sometime. Maybe forever. It's currently available in one game that I'm aware of.

Here's some benchmarks of it in Ashes of the Singularity:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9740/directx-12-geforce-plus-radeon-mgpu-preview/4

Between the GTX 950 and RX 460, my guess is that the RX 460 will be faster. So it's going to come down to performance specifics and price. You'll have to wait for launch to see for sure.

You can use two GPUs, but they won't work together for a performance benefit. DX12/Vulkan is supposed to change that, but I wouldn't really count on that being a viable thing for at least another year.

The RX 460 is almost the same price.

And Nvidia announced the 1050?

The 1050 isn't out yet, but I wouldn't expect Nvidia to be very late. At the worst a month or two and we have a 1050.

Just wait for more Rx 460 reviews to come; reviews are kinda all over the place.

It's a really great time when it comes to GPU release, but extremely bad time it terms of stocks and pricing. You should wait to see all the cards well stocked everywhere, this will drive the prices down. And with the prices down, I would recommend a RX 470 or RX 480 instead of a 460. Depending on the games you play, the benefits will be huge at 1080p, and they're still quite affordable. And don't look at the GTX 950, it's not the best value with all those new cards coming out

CPU : i7 8700k @5GHz, GPU : ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX, RAM : 2x8Go 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance, MB : ASUS Prime Z370-A, PSU : CM V850, Case :  NZXT S340, CPU Cooler : NZXT Kraken x62, Monitor : Acer Predator XB271HU 27" 1440p 165Hz, OS : Windows 10 Home 64 bits

Yeah but i don't know what to say the RX 460 compared to the GTX 950 is almost the same price the 2gb edition

And the GTX 950 is really cheap.. somewhere around 164.25$ and the RX 470 is 275$

But i'm not working with Dollars, i just exchanged the prices in dollars to see what i mean

This is the Romanian pricing btw

They haven't, but they didn't give very much advanced notice of the GTX 1060 or the Titan XP, either. They were quite quick to respond to the RX 480 with the GTX 1060, so it's not unreasonable to think they may have a GTX 1050 waiting for the right launch opportunity.

They would rather sell as many of the more expensive SKUs as they can before they have to release cheaper ones, so I wouldn't expect a 1050 announcement until they have the RX 460 to compete against.

I could even go from the i3 6100 to the i5 6600 and stay about two years with no graphics card...

But i don't really know what to do about that

I'm thinking it will be weeks, maybe a month. If you wait years you'll end up with a GTX 1150. :)

I do think you should wait at least until we know more about the RX 460, which could be a matter of days. The GTX 950 will still be an option, and you'll be able to make a more educated choice.
