Dual boot "Linux / Windows" question

Dual boot "Linux / Windows" question

i have two HDD

the HDD 1 have Windows 10 inside (i can not touch this HDD)
the HDD 2 have "important data" that i don't want erase, and have free space

i want have linux on the HDD 2 and let Windows 10 alone on the HDD 1

so... i plan create a particion  on the HDD 2
unplug the HDD 1 that have Windows 10 inside
and install Linux on the particion in HDD 2

but if i do this... Windows 10 will still recognize the "important data" particion on HDD 2 ?

i know that Windows don't like Linux, and don't recognize Linux particions

but will recognize the "important data" on the HDD 2 partition ?

I would personally image Windows first just for safety reasons BUT I have done this before and I had no issues at all, just depends what you want to use.

You can use Wubi (Windows Ubuntu Installer) if you want to run Ubuntu, its got slightly less performance than a standard install but its safe.

Yes, that's fine.. the "important data" will still be there on HDD2. In fact you don't need to unplug HDD1 at all to install linux on HDD2 partition that you are creating, just make it a size that you will remember. When you have installed linux you will now get a GRUB menu asking which OS you want to boot. If you unplug HDD1 and install linux to HDD2 partition you will have to then force boot linux when you want to use that I think, which isn't a problem, but seems unnecessary to me. But either way you will be fine :)

"small update"

i finish to install all, and all works great (so far :))

i make the HDD 2 primary hard drive
and install the GRUB file on this HDD 2
that give me the option of dual boot

and if i don't want this, i can make the HDD 1 primary hard drive
and Windows 10 never see my true colors lol

the only that worry me is that...
if Windows 10 is on HDD 1 (and Linux on HDD 2 primary)
windows update will install his updates on HDD 1 non primary ? 9_9
