Hi guys,

My Radeon HD 6990 is acting up.
How is a dual gpu card Crossfired?

GPU-Z or catalyst control center won't find the second card. (Other chip)

Primary chip is working with no issues what-so-ever. But the second gpu is not found.
Crossfire is DISABLED.

As if there was no secondary chip.

This has happend previously. Baking has solved the trick two times already. But now it's happend again.

So I'm wondering what exactly is dying.

every intelligent person ever would tell you this:

baking it is a temporary solution

my bet is the second gpu is dead, and baking just nudges it in the right way to make it work again.

But it works just fine when it works, and just suddently doesn't. No artifacts or anything.

Just an update.

I can find both cards in Device Manager, working JUST fine, and also I can find it on GPU-Z.

It just says Crossfire Disabled. As in no connection between the cards. What the actual fuck.

Can I somehow use the secondary card as my primary or something like that on a DUAL-GPU card???

try running Unigine Heaven and use GPU-Z  and look to see if GPU2 is running.

MSI Afterburner settings, disable ULPS

DDU, reinstall drivers, enable crossfire?

Tried, and Tried.
Even GPU-Z Says "Crossfire Disabled"
As in no cable between GPU's.

But both GPU's are separately found just fine.

I have a Logitech G15 with a display on , which MSI Afterburner can output GPU Usage, FPS etc.
I can see 0% usage on GPU2.

And what's weirder, sometimes when windows starts up, GPU2 is on 99% usage, and temps go up to 65'C.

But it's doing nothing, and there is no way to stop it again. :/

Other times when windows starts up it is at 0% usage and 42 'C again.

GPU1 is at 99% usage

GPU2 is at 0% usage.

GPU-Z Says Crossfire is disabled.

But it can find both cares in the drop down menu at the bottom.

In afterburner did you disable ULPS?

Yes.

I had already previously disabled it.

We tried it on my fathers PC.

It was just built with a i5-6600 processor.

We observed the same behaviour. Only one GPU was working, even though both were found. It's as if they don't have a CF cable between them.

Hmm I was just wondering what exactly it is. If it's a line, or a chip.
But who knows.

Anyway, thank you for your help and time.

I'm just going to keep using it as a radeon HD 6970 instead. Same same hehe.
Still a pretty capable card. Between GTX 570 and GTX 580 performance.

Just annoying not to get to use the full potential >.<

Won't bake it again. Only prolongs a few months at best. Not worth the hassle.
