RVZ02 CPU Cooler

Go to solution Solved by NannerBeans,

The NH-L12 without the top fan is 66mm so you might be able to squeeze that in but coolers are pretty hard in that case.

You can also try the PH-TC12LS with a slim 120mm fan. The included one is too thick.

So I REALLY want to use the Silverstone RVZ02 HTPC case for my new build but a lot of the low profile coolers are rated for less than my CPUs TDP and this really bothers me because I don't want my CPU to run hot or be damaged.

My build: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/wyYV7h

I am using the Xigmatek cooler because it is rated at 115 TDP despite reviews saying that is not so.  Anybody know really good CPU coolers less than 65mm that will adequately cool my 6700k?

Also some people say the ventilation for the GPU area is bad but it is better than the Node 202 so I'm not worried...or should I be?

Let's start out by just being honest here: you're not going to get a huge overclocking on a 6700K in a mini ITX case with shaky ventilation.

Something like the Noctua LH-9x65 or would be my choice. There are others out there like the Cryorig C7, which is beautiful and looks great, but Cryorig even advertises it as a stock replacement only, not a heavy duty overclocker.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I am not looking to overclock just to have quieter and possibly better cooling CPU cooler than stock, not that the 6700k comes with one.  And sadly the C7 won't fit in the RVZ02 and the LH-9x65 is at the limit of the case so I doubt it would fit without touching the side panel.

Why get a 6700K then?

If the LH-9x65 won't fit, then you will likely need to get a cooler like the NH-L9i, which also will not be any better than stock.

How could the C7 possibly not fit? It's 47mm tall, same as the Intel stock cooler. I'm using one in a teeny tiny salvaged HP Slimline case with no issues.

Well, I mean, I can't have an optical drive because the cooler blocks the SATA cables, but whatever, I wanted a SSD more anyway ;)

If all else fails, there's the Rosewill RCX-775-LP. I've never owned one, but I've read good things about it being a little more effective than the stock cooler, but much smaller and quieter. If you do go that route, please let me know how you like it!

My bad it'll fit but it's not available in the UK and neither is the Rosewill one...

Because it has 4 cores hyper-threaded with a 4.0 ghz stock clock.  And yeah the NH-L9i looks alright it just seems a little weak.

What about the Noctua LH-9?

I've looked at that and it seems alright but Noctua says themselves that with Skylake CPUs it should only be used if the ambient temperature is below 30 C with a properly ventilated case. And I can't guarantee that will always be the temperature.

So does the i7-6700.

That's what you get with low profile coolers.

the 6700 non k has a 3.4 ghz clock.
