$1000 Gaming Build - Sanity Check

I'm helping a friend build a 1080p budget gaming pc (6500 DKK / ~$1000 / ~£650 / ~€860) and I need someone to do a quick sanity check on the parts..

 

This is what I'm considering at the moment:

Yeah.. I thought it might be a good place to start off.. 

 

I considered opting for an i5-6600K, but the extra cash for that, a Z170 MB and DDR4 RAM is almost another 2000 DKK or almost 1/3 of the budget.. So I went for something cheaper..

Where do you live? what currency do you use? and what is the budget in your currency?

We live in Denmark (Europe) so our currency is the danish Krone (DKK).. Budget is 6500 DKK = ~$1000 = ~£650 = ~€860

Do not expect a massive OC on that board, buy a FX-8350/70 with Wraith Cooler instead. (AIO water cooler is pointless on a board with that weak VRM)

I can build a $1000 PC from American prices, but Idk about the prices over there. Cause you should be able to get A LOT more performance for $1000.

Parts are generally (much) more expensive over here.. Way back in 2011 when I bought my current CPU (the i7-980X) it was a $1000 in the States, which translated to 5500 DKK (transaction rate at the time was ~555 DKK to 100 USD). Had I bought it in Denmark I would have paid 7100 DKK or $1280! The current rate is 666 DKK to 100 USD..

 

Current setup in Denmark is $1048,29 = €939,66 = £796,92 = 6988,5 DKK (Shipping incl.)

 

Same setup in the States are, according to pcpartpicker.com, $809,36 = €725,49 = £615,28 = 5395,68 DKK (Incl. $45 rebate/discount and US shipping)

That's a difference of ~20%. If I ordered and had it sent to Denmark I'd be paying international shipping, a customs fee, +25% tax on top of all that AND a customs handle fee to the danish postal office.. 

 

The reason for the cooler was not as much a question of overclock. I was more interested in getting a cooling solution that would make the system more silent and be usable for future upgrades. The PC is for my friends son (14yo) and it's first pc.. So I'm guessing on him upgrading later.. Same goes for PSU.. 80+ Gold might be too expensive in a build like this, but it will be more quiet than an 80+ Bronze and it would be a viable save on a future upgrade. 

 

But I might think you're right - The extra performance of the FX-8370 might be worth it.. Depends on how sensitive to noise he is, I guess.. I'll have a look at the i3-6100 on Sunday, when I have the time..

That looks like a nice build with plenty of room to upgrade CPU, GPU and/or alternative cooling in the future.
