7970m (single or crossfire) terrible performance - lost

ShadowCaptain

As some of you may know, my 780ti is away being RMAd, so I am using my M18x gaming laptop in the meantime

however, whether using a single GPU or with Crossfire enabled, I can barely play any games above low settings

Specs, i7 3610qm

8gb ram

2x 7970m

I have reinstalled W10 with a clean install on formatted drives, games are installed onto an SSD, I have the latest drivers, I have high performance enabled, all battery saving turned off, I have the laptop switched into dedicated graphics mode, etc etc etc

On BF4, I have to run at 1080p LOW everything to get 60fps, same for fallout 4

on YouTube a single 7970m can play BF4 on high/ultra but I can barely play it

IDEAS?

Try some older drivers from 6 months - 1year ago. It is likely performance degradation from the RX480 launches and subsequent driver updates.

Try older drivers since they usually in some cases are much better than the new ones

I did try but had crazy instability, could be W10

I was thinking of going back to 8.1 or 7 but sadly dont have a licence

hmmmm, that makes no sense why you would have instability on BF4 with older drives since the game is 3 years old....

The drivers have instability on W10, they just seem to have issue, and sometimes the drivers seem to dissapear etc

I was just thinking about that. Back when those were a thing there weren't even talks about win 10 yet. How about clearing up some space and installing the seven as a secondary with the trial license just as a test. Then if it helps, scavenge a key from somewhere and ditch the 10.

yeah well I have 3 hard drives in there and they are all emtpy

id honestly rather just wipe the thing and start form scratch, its only a backup machine so nothing to lose really

will get the W7 iso tonight and see if it fixes anything, I feel like W10 and the latest drivers are just not doing anything when like 2 years ago this thing was playing games on ultra

I mean you can see in my review here from 2014 that it was running great
