PCIe 4.0

I thought PCIe 4.0 was suppose to be coming out this year with the new GPUs, i.e. 10xx and RX 4xx... and mobos... none of them have it though...

The GPUs still do not utilise the full PCIE 3.0 x16, they are fine running x4 and x8 without significantly performance decrease.

There is no need for PCIe 4.0 for GPUs this generation, or next.

 

You might start seeing PCIe 4.0 next year.

Even a full PCIe 2.0 x 16 is enough for modern GPUs. But there'd be a little bit of bottlenecks on some high end cards. But not noticeable.

 

As @DrMikeNZ said, PCIe 3.0 x 16 is plenty.

From what I have read it still isn't finalised and we will start hearing / seeing more in 2017.

PCIe 3.0 on x8 will bottleneck only the newest GTX titan X P. Just by a little, and you probbably won't even notice it.

We are not even close to bottlenecking x16

 

If you ask me, we will get more news on 4.0 next year, but it will be avaliable in 2018 for us to acctually use it.
