Can anyone recommend any good servers that are rack mountable and are no more that $150? (Unless you get REALLY GOOD performance per dollar for more that $150). I don't really care about power efficency. it needs to be able to run PfSense without a problem. Thanks

If you want gigabit performance you're going to want something beefier. If you're only going to filter internet > LAN traffic then it is fine. However if you're going to have multiple networks that pfsense is the in-between... say LAN and WiFi then transferring files between your LAN and WiFi is going to be sub-par. This was a $300 lesson to me.

I live in a place of slow internet speeds so unless I had a gigabit switch for my home network I wouldn't need it

I don't know the seller etc but this is one I found. all of the 5 series run the same hardware with differences being cpu's memory and vpn modules. You can use a flash memory card or any sata drive with it. there is plenty of room in there. I used an old 2.5" sata drive from a laptop. works like a champ. I upgraded the cpu and memory with stuff i had lying around. I have old dell servers and hp servers. while this isn't silent it is a lot quieter than those.

It's not the internet speed I was referring to. It is from 1 network segment to another. If you plan to say have your WiFi on 192.168.1.0/24 and your copper/LAN network on 192.168.40.0/24 - these two networks will have to pass through pfsense. So to go from WiFi to LAN the bottle neck could possibly be your choice in hardware.
