Guys I have an Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz as my processor and as for my GPU I have an Nvidia GTX 750Ti. Is my processor holding back my GPU ?, (I think it is) could you guys recommend  some processor which won't bottelneck my GPU (can you keep it in the $200 budget range, tight on budget(^_^)). Thanks for the reply in advance.

A Q6600 and a 750ti... Eh, I don't think so. Maybe a little, but with just a 750ti, shouldn't be that bad.

200 for the CPU, new MoBo to support the new chipset, and new RAM to work with the MoBo? Or just the CPU?

What games do you play? It might not be worth the cost to upgrade just yet, just save up for a new build in another year or two.

Did this require three separate posts? you can edit your posts, you know...

Yes, however not enough to justify a 200$ investment in a new cpu. I suggest you either look for a cheap (most likely used) sandy bridge i5 for under 120$ mobo included or wait until you have enough money to buy a whole new machine - the 750ti is not that fast anyway.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Meh, a 750Ti is not a fast GPU, so you're good in that regard imho, but you should consider upgrading your rig. I'd look into used Sandy/Ivy Bridge i5's if I were you.

I upgraded from my Core 2 Quad to a Core i7 4790K last year taking my 750Ti from one system to the next. I noticed a performance increase. I was able to play a few games at slightly higher settings, and gained more FPS if I stayed at the original settings.

I am playing games like Tomb Raider and AC, with around 20 - 30 fps with medium setting 1080p....

Are you using DDR2 or DDR3? Cause if you need a new CPU a new MB is needed and there aren't new platforms compatible with DDR2

You should ask us after you get the money in those few months, many things can change in that time, definitely the prices.

If you're in the US I would recommend saving up as much as you can for Black Friday. Newegg almost always sells the current unlocked i5 for $200 or so on Thanksgiving & Black Friday. I'd imagine you'll find a big discount on a Z170 board and I bet you can get a really nice gpu like an R9 Fury, R9 Nano, GTX 980 Ti, etc on deep discount also.

To give you an idea of the deals, last Thanksgiving I bought an MSI Z97S Krait board from newegg for $85, and they were also selling the MSI Z97 PC Mate for like $68. On Thanksgiving 2014 newegg was selling Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 for like $230 (with four free games bundled). Both of the last two years they were selling the i5-4690k for $200 and the i7-4790k for $300-$310.
