50% Gpu Usage

Go to solution Solved by abe3002,

So going into safe mode didn't help me at all but I decided to switch my gpu into a different pcie and whether or not its a coincidence its not using the same amount of power which sadly means my motherboard might be going but thats annoying as it wasn't a basic motherboard but i did see when i started up chrome it used more power even though i had two tabs it was using 45% of my gpu so i turnt of hardware acceleration for chrome and that worked, thanks for the suggestions guys

Hi there im having a major issue and im starting pull my hair out, basically msi afterburner says my gpu usage is at 50% and I have no idea why I have checked process explorer and there is nothing using very much of my gpu and I thought that maybe it might be saying its using 50% but actually wasn't but my card was sitting at 60'c which isn't normal as its not hot here and nothing has been changed regarding my air flow so i don't know whats going on and need help please.

My Specs:

CPU: i7 4790k

GPU: Gigabyte Windforce 980Ti

RAM: 16gb of ram

OS: Windows 10 Pro N

Wait, so you are or are not running something that might be using the GPU?

Note that Chrome and certain browsers (aside from games) can use the GPU for certain activities / web pages. WebGL is a thing among other possible sources.

Otherwise, since you just stated you've rebooted the computer try to boot into safe mode and check the GPU usage. If it's low, then it's probably a process that is loading upon startup (you don't have anything like Folding@Home or BOINC installed, do you? They use the GPU for certain tasks too.)

well you can use a tool called smartclose. it will close all nonessential programs. then you'll be able to see if its related to some type of process or program.

I just used smartclose and it didn't make a difference

Im not running anything that should be using my gpu I have closed chrome fully before and it would still be at 50% and I don't have Folding@home or boinc installed I shall boot into safe mode and have a look
