Solved by MisterMK3,
A patch is simply a software update, often released to mitigate or solve an issue with a game, operating system, or other piece of software. Game patches are released to solve instability issues, support for higher display resolutions, and fix in-game glitches, to name a few. Windows patches are often released to "patch" a "hole" in the operating system's security, as an example.
