Xeon x5650 good upgrade?

As the title says, I want to replace my Fx-4170 with a Xeon x5650. I can get it used for around 50 Euros/Dollars. I mainly want to use it for gaming and some video editing.

I wanted to replace my crappy Asrock MoBo because it has been giving me a lot of instability with my CPU, which I also wanted to replace.

I dont have a MoBo for it though and they seem to be hard to get and quite expensive.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

the intel 5x chipset is extremely dated, probably better to get a i5/(z77/z97) setup. They're getting pretty cheap nowadays.

Woo!

It might be extremely dated, but they seem to preform extremely well, especially for the price. But since I'm not really able to get my hands on a MoBo, it isn't really an option,

No, an x5650 is about $50USD and a x58 board is about $100.

A used x79 motherboard is $200-$250 by itself.

The single thread performance is only a little bit better, but has way better multithreaded performance. I would say it is a good upgrade.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •
