Is this a good build

I would like to play more modern games than my dell inspiron, games like h1z1, no mans sky, dirty bomb, overwatch, bf4, fallout 4, civ 6, dayz, and play borderlands 1 and 2 better. and my budget is, at the most 500$

sooo what is this going to be used for? just standard office stuff like web browsing and MS office? then i guess its fine, not the greatest you could get im sure but this WOULD do the job, it wont be a nice and fast PC for anything beyond that tho, maby you could play some light games but anything more then that is a no

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

All those games will be hard to run on a $500 budget,a 750Ti could give you medium settings

Best I could manage of around $500. You can always upgrade the processor too since cabylake will support h110.

gaming wise, no, they perform the same... for workloads, the i3 is way better. the architecture of amd's processors is basically cutting the total bandwidth of the quad core in half, so it is more like a dual core with hyperthreading anyway

this is what i recommend to start with, the case isnt exactly what you wanted, but spending the extra bit more on the motherboard for upgradibility is a must, also it is a part you will probably not need to replace if you are looking to upgrade to an i5 in the future

also if you could wait a bit, the rx 470 is around the corner on august 8th, that would be a bit cheaper than the 380x i have there by about $20, putting this more in your budget. i only went over because spending the extra $20 on a 380x is worth it, 2gb more ram and better performance (over the TI)

Agree with the above. I have a 750 ti sc, and only game i play that you have is bf4, and I usually get 45 to 70 fps (with i5 4590) on high depending on the map. Idk about the other games, but just a little reference.

600W is good enough for any single GPU, but the PSU he choose is not that great, but it is fine for a 750ti.

no, amd has worse single threaded performance. Skylake is better.

A Skylake or Haswell Pentium will be better is some use cases but not for others. Some games refuse to open on 2C / 2T computers.

They both have pros and cons, they are ultimately fairly equal.
