I want to know if this computer is going to stick with me for at least 2 years

I am looking for a very good and powerful windows computer, and I have decided to get the Dell XPS 15. The only problem is, I have people who are telling me that Dell products aren't very reliable and the XPS 15 line seems to have a lot of hardware issues.

Is this true? if so can you recommend another laptop in a similar price range:

Dell Latitude E7470 perhaps?  Buy off of Dell Outlet or eBay.   They usually come with 3-year next business day on-site warranties, so you're guaranteed at least 3 years out of one.

The Latitude is Dell's business-class line.  XPS is more consumer-focused.  More "prosumer", rather than "consumer" or "professional".

The XPS is a pretty decent build overall, so I don't know if I'd lump it in with the Dell complaints.  But the business class hardware does have superior support, and some features like the docking capability really prolong the longevity of the laptop especially if you're going to be using it portably a lot.

I'm a student

I need it to play casual games, like Minecraft, CS: GO stuff like that.

Needs to last a full school day,so like 6-8 hours. 5-6 hours is the minimum

No cheap materials, I had my Asus laptop break on me because of it's cheap plastic covering

My budget is $2000 cad (Approximately $1500 USD)

The $2000 doesn't include taxes, warranty, shipping or anything like that. It can be $2000 on the dot

Then you've already picked out the best one. XPS15 FHD Large Battery Edition.

Something like this. @Eason85 has much more experience purchasing XPS15 refurbs.

Even with import tax, its cheaper than buying new.

So do you think I should still at least consider all the hardware problems they have had in the past with their laptops?

Or should I just take my chances and get it?

It has a year of warranty, and their XPS line is very solid.
Doubt it will give you any major problems, if any.

I have 2 XPS products (XPS 13 9343, i5, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, QHD+ touchscreen, and an XPS 15 9550, i7, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd, 1080p non touch). I have had no build quality issues with either of them (The XPS 15 is also one of the early devices ordered about 2 weeks after it was released, and reports have it that all the issues that may have occurred with the early models have been solved). I use the XPS 15 as my main PC for school (electrical engineering) as well as my gaming machine and I have zero complaints with it. Currently the XPS 13 is used as a personal machine by my Dad and the only complaints that he has is that the trackpad can start acting funny when it gets dirty, an issue I have not seen on the XPS 15. I get around 7-8 hours of battery life from my XPS 15 under most workloads and I can stretch it past 10 hours when writing papers for school. I definitely recommend this laptop as a high end mobile device and light gaming rig.

It's essentially risk-free with a premium warranty (on-site).

When you first get it, check for any hardware issues (spacebar sticking, chassis/port allignment, screen issues, headphone jack). I've bought 4 XPS 15s refurb, and only the 4th, which I got from MerkAmericaCo, had problems. I had the keyboard and the motherboard both replaced in my home.
