Best ssd for Raid 1

Hi Linus Forums,

 

I'm looking to perform a raid1 configuration on an ssd. I would like recommendations for the best ssd to use (brand or type) at an affordable price.

Whatever has the most iops. Most ssds will act the same.

Yep, pretty much RAID 1 doesn't matter for drives, but preferable make them the same brand and model. I'm not so sure if SSD's need RAID1 however, they are a lot more reliable than HDD's and usually used for OS boot drives, so the data isn't usually as valuable as archive HDD's. In RAID 0 you should use RAID 10 instead, because that is safer.

I'd just go with something that's known to be reliable like the Samsung 850 pro or Intel 530.

or wants fast, reliable storage. If I really wanted I could get a RAID 1 setup with SSDs for $80

Do not use a consumer grade SSD for RAID 1! The trim command (in the ATA command set, and UNMAP in the SCSI command set) is not supported therefor your performance will degrade over time. I recommend using Intel DC S3500 or equivalent.

Thank You for the help guys. I really appreciate it. I think i'll go with the Intel brand on this one due to the price over the Samsung.
