Hpet and other timers

Hi there, so I wasn't sure if this is the correct place in the forum to post this topic but regardless,

What's the best cpu or system timer (not sure what's more correct) to use specifically for online gaming?

If I want to reduce lag or get rid of micro stutter which one should I use? The only ones I've heard of are Lapics, TSC and Hpet.

Currently using Hpet x64 (enabled in my bios)

however I heard that there are a few other timers and some are "more precise" than other but there are some which are "faster".

I really don't know. just wanna see what you guys think.
