Scored ready on steam vr performance test with:

GTX 1060

i3-4160

Score: 7.2(High), 1030 frames tested, 0 frames under 90 fps, 4 cpu bound frames.

Can i run Vr or not? I was pretty sure i needed a i5 to run Vr

look at the minimum requirements for vr on your nvidia driver.it should say no because of your processor.

My Build:

I7 4770k(3.7Ghz)(Watercooled, Astek 510LC)/Asus GTX 1070Ti Strix Advanced/1600 MHz DDR3 12GB/ASUS Z87-M G30AB/Kingston RBU-SC400S37128G 128GB SDD/Toshiba DT01ACA100 1000GB HDD/Acbel R88 ATX12V 700W /Windows 8.1 64 Bit

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if your cpu is not good enough, I would try the oculus vr test as well and see what that says.

it says no because the cpu is lower than what they want

But the steam vr one actually kinda runs a game and for me was above 100 at all times so i though the steam vr one was more accurate cause of that

I have an i5 3570 and it runs just fine. 4 frames cpu bound isn't terrible. Atw on the Rift does wonders with dropped frames I barely notice it.

Yes, you can run it. The benchmark exists for a reason. The minimum requirement is just an indication and it's generally bs. The compatibility checker does not actually care for the cpu's performance, it just checks if the serial number is higher than its arbitrary minimum cpu. It told me that my i7 2600 was not enough when I can run it at 4.2ghz and destroy almost any locked i5 (and besides it is probably faster than the recommended minimum cpu even at stock speed). Your gpu is also faster than the recommended minimum, and that is really what influences gaming performance the most. Maybe a couple of games will have some problems but the majority should run just fine.

With that said I wouldn't invest in vr right now unless you specifically want to help the market grow. It's just not ready yet.

Just now, KoalaaGaming said:

now its only 1 cpu bound frame

It probably depends on what you have running in the background at the time really. I'm sure if you disable as many background processes as possible or other apps like your browser that number will probably drop to zero, 1 cpu bound frame won't be noticeable imo. Friends got a 780ti not sure on the cpu but I think it might be an i3 and he runs the vive just fine.

What about the rift? I don't have the money or room for vive so i wanted to get rift.

A friend of mine bought it and I tried it myself. It is cool, don't get me wrong, but it feels a little bit like a gimmick for now. You still have black borders in your field of view and even some light leaking in from the outside if your nose doesn't fit it perfectly. The resolution isn't high enough for you to forget you're looking at a screen, especially if you have experienced games at high dpi. Another big limitation that I didn't expect is that most of the games don't allow you to control your movement (as in, you stand still or look onto the scene from a fixed point while your third person character moves around) because that makes you sick very quickly. Forget first person shooters unless they involve you standing still and defending a wave (*cough* serious sam vr *cough*) and that to me is not what an fps is about. There are third party mods that allow some popular AAA games like DOOM and Bioshock to be played in vr, but even though I did not try them I imagine they would run into motion sickness problems unless you are particularly resistant to that. Furthermore you don't get to play motion based games just yet because there is no motion controller. You're "stuck" with the gamepad or keyboard/mouse, which are just fine for regular games but do not contribute to the vr experience. Not being able to see your hands in game can also feel very weird.

Since it is very expensive, I'd hold out for now. In the next couple of years we'll most likely see a big leap forward in vr technology so rushing could just end up in wanting to upgrade very soon as well as not being as satisfactory as you'd expect.
