How to check your CPU & GPU stability after over-clock?

Suggest me some good software to test and benchmark my CPU & GPU over-clock.

You don't really need software. If it just crashes at max load then its unstable. Also OC one at a time not both at once.

MSI Kombuster, Firestrike (or any of its equivalents), and games for GPU.

Prime 95 (get one of the older versions since the newer ones overvolt the CPU which can harm) and Aida 64 for CPU.

 

Make sure to get CPU-Z to check the status of everything while you're overclocking.

I have tried the latest version of Prime95 and it didn't seem to overvolt the CPU for me. My i5 6500 didn't even get to 50°C. Does this happen on K CPUs only?

They may have fixed it. I had the issue a couple of months back when I was re-validating my CPU overclock.

What exactly happened?

OCCT will push your CPU on to it's knees and then sit on it. Most guides tell you to run for a few hours but any good stress test will show any instability very quickly.

My outlet wattage meter usually is supposed to read 490W (give or take a few W) at full load but when Prime had the issue it pulled 530 to 550W. And I'd get BSOD after 30 minutes. When I used an older version it pulled the old value and I was stable for the full 12 hours.

Very interesting. Thanks alot! Would be interesting to see if that only happens on K CPUs. Do you maybe know any other program that stress tests the CPU and is free?
