CPU and moore's law

there is a question I try to figure out these days. I am plan to upgrade my i52400. However I find out that i7-6700 only fast than i52400 less than 50%. But according moore's law the computing power should be double every 18month. Why the i5-6500 is not twice as i52400,these two chips are 4years away

Moore's law is not about the amount of power, it is about the amount of transistors in the same area. Intel do not make all of their cpus as fast as possible, some prioritise power saving over the latest technology and speed.

that is a very old graph do you have some thing newer?

Moore's law itself is very old (in tech terms, anyway).

The i5 2400 is Sandy Bridge. The i5 6500 is Skylake.

 

Sandy Bridge has 32 nm transistors.

Skylake has 14 nm transistors.

 

Smaller is better.

 

The transistor size is under half of the old transistor size, meaning that you can fit more than twice as many transistors in the same place.
