Is there any real difference between 1440p and 4k? (in games)

Imabigmac

I'm considering buying a 4k monitor, as I found one for a good deal. Right now I have a good 2560x1440 PLS 60Hz monitor and so I'm just curious if anyone on here has actually gone from 1440p to 4k and whether or not they have seen an improvement in games at all?

Thanks!

No, 2560x1440(3.7 million pixels) is very much different from 3840x2160(8.3 million pixels).

well maybe just a victim of bad marketing. Some display makers call 2560x1440p, "QUAD HD" because technically 720p x 4 is 1440p. And so it can be easy to mess up 4k and quad HD. Because 4K isn't really a proper term anymore.

Imabigmac I have the same question as you then lol. I have a 1440p Asia ROG monitor with gsync. If the jump is noticeable I'm hoping a can find a 4k one with gsync that achievs more than 60Hz

Not really any 4K monitors above 60 Hz (and good luck achieving over 60 FPS as well)

Although I would say 4K G-Sync is worth it, I could never get rid of my 4K mon

So there is a noticeable difference between 1440 and 4k?

I've never had a 1440p monitor for an extensive amount of time, but I'd say the answer is an easy yes. Not to mential you get sooo much more real estate with the 4K mon

How long do you think until 4k monitors start coming in over 60hz?

wtf.... Weird that Dell would be the first one (I mean they push a lot of stuff like 5K, but you'd think some gaming company would try like asus)

well there you go @Joelbanks5 if you have $5000 :P

4k will look sharper but unless you are using a large screen you can't make full use of 4k resolution because everything is too small at 4k on a 27 inch and scaling is needed, so it's kind of wasting screen estate until you go much bigger.

So because of that, GPUs not being quite ready yet and for Windows scaling needing a little more work I settled for 1440P.

well this monitor isnt for gaming. its just so good that its probably the best in gaming as well. most important is the oled panel with 100% adobe rgb.
