They're about the same in performance. The 480 does better in GameWorks games that previously hammered the 300 series because it does better at tessellation and the 390 is better at 1440p in case you want to use VSR. Which model 390 is it? Depending on the model, I would recommend it over a reference RX 480.

Hello,

My name is Inuka :)

I just wanted to know if there are any bottlenecks in my PC.. since I want to add a RX 480 :)

A website called bottleneck calculator said so :(  but the folks down at Toms hardware said NO! they said it won't bottleneck at all!(links to GPU and bottleneck calculator is under my specs) I am looking to play graphic demanding games like Far cry Primal and DOOM :)  if I get bottlenecks I will get r9 380 or r9 390 :)  are these better than rx 480?

My specs are:

i5 4460
16 GB RAM
1TB 7200RPM
Mobo: H81M-plus micro-atx motherboard
THANKS SO MUCH GUYS :D  :D  :D  !!!

it won't bottleneck, that's a great cpu for an rx 480 or gtx 1060.

It will bottleneck, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't get the 480. Those other GPUs won't do any better.

So is it bad? like really bad? will I lose 20 fps? can I get 60 fps on new games like Far cry Primal??

Lol, it's nothing that drastic. More in the ballpark for 5 - 7 fps, which is fine.

How much fps do you reckon I should get on Far cry primal?

Your CPU might cause you to lose a couple of frames but better to have a better GPU rather than a weaker one.

If you don't put settings on ultra/very high (which are not really necessary, but reviewers use them for worst case scenarios; the difference is negligible for such a huge performance hit), you should be able to hit 60 fps. Stay away from things like depth of field, motion blur, bloom and chromatic aberration (if the game has it). They're all useless settings that add nothing of substance to image quality but suck away performance.

Will I get good performance for my money?

its $316 AUD = $240

The use of the word "bottleneck" is often misused.

If you're playing a game with lots of AI like GTA V or Witcher 3, expect that CPU to slow you down. It's your limiting factor but not your bottleneck.

There are many games where the GPU will have enough work to do where the GPU stays at 100% while the CPU is around 20%, GPU is now the limiting factor.

I would say get the 480 unless you can find a 390 for cheaper. A slow down due to CPU is nothing compared to a slow down caused by a GPU.

Nope. Garbage. Avoid like the plague. Asus and Gigabyte were terrible for AMD's R9 300 series. Asus seems to have gotten the RX 480 right though, but it's the most expensive of the bunch. Get the 480.

The 4460's low clock speed means it's kind of a single threaded performance bottleneck when compared to, say, a 4670k which can be overclocked, but that CPU should play games just fine so I wouldn't worry myself over it.
