An app would either be far too much work, and therefore expensive, or it would be no better than the desktop site, while still being a reasonable amount of work. At this time, it is not something that we are planning to do.

I've been on vacation for two weeks now and discovered how annoying it is to use the mobile version of this site on an iPhone 4 (I know a bit old to expect good performance and smooth web-browsing but I'm poor :D), so I thought an app might be something more people would like to have?

It wouldn't need to be fancy looking or such things, just an app to read posts and reply to them. I have no idea how much work that is and i bet there was an idea like this before, so sorry if this post already exists, but it just came to my mind :)

There are several threads also posted about it. Both in this section and Software section. Last was just day or two ago, and is still 1st page of Software

To note. App doesn't necessarily mean it will be smoother. It will essentially load same stuff website loads. If you can force browser not to load images, that will improve load times.

Actually if you check some threads considering this (last linked above), the opinion from moderators in charge of forum development and with most experience on that kind of thing has stayed same. Actually its less likely that there will be app since current mobile version is mostly working. And much better than what it was before.
