Well the gtx 1070 should be much better.

My i5 6500 is bad and can't even maintain 4.5ghz, and 4.4ghz causes it to slowly become unstable over weeks with a vcore of 1.395. FML

I'd go 6700k because its hyperthreading will help with rendering (as @Chipsahoyz said), video editing, and recording. If you can, you can save up for a GTX 1070 + 6700K.

Save, by the time you have saved up enough for the 6700k and 1070 the prices will have dropped.

I have to disagree with that @App4that. I highly doubt the 6700k will drop in price, it's been pretty regular for a while. As for the 1070, the founders edition will likely be out of stock, if it's not already and the only thing left will be 3rd parties selling it for ridiculous prices or the various "super clocked" editions from the different companies.

The 1070 prices will have dropped, not the 6700K.  Also, the fe will be available through the life of the card through nvidia's website.  Also, You can find custom coolers for cheaper, or buy a cheap blower like AERO or TURBO for watercooling loops.

I guarantee you the 6700k comes down in price. The new CPUs will hit Q4 this year and we will see sales on Skylake way before that. In a month or two the supply issue will be old news for the 1070, already here you can but them in Newegg.

Way better to wait until you can get both than settle and have buyers remorse once you find the limitation of the one you settled on.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

To be fair, the 4790K still hasn't come down much since the launch of the 6700K.  I think more retailers will shift to the $299.99 pricetage that microcenter has, so I guess that's a decent 10% decrease in price.

That because most people impulse buy. I paid 200us for mine brand new. If you want the best deal wait for them, don't impulse buy.

Oh, nice!  From a microcenter sale, or?   I paid $289.99 for my 6700k with a $30 discount on the mobo, and $30 off on the RAM from microcenter. I got my Phantom 410 brand new for 35, and the RM850X for $105.  I freaking love deals, haha. Maybe too much. My wife gets a little perturbed, lol.

The i7 6700k with gtx 1060 will be better for rendering videos faster, but it won't get anywhere near the FPS in games that the i5 6600k with gtx 1070 will. Like other have said, the ideal thing to do would be to save a bit more and get both the i7 6700K and the GTX 1070.
