Hey all,

Looking for some advice on a new headset, my current headset is the Razer Kraken, which I regretted buying the second I put it on my head, it basically crushes my ears and head and the audio quality is terrible, and the microphone is beyond sub-par. I also continue to annoy my team that I play games with over Skype/discord etc, because the mic doesn't just pick up my voice but ALL the sound within a 10 meter radius of me, sometimes it picks up my sisters talking outside better than my own voice. It also picks up keystrokes from my mechanical keyboard (razer black widow chroma) it was a razer deal for all the gear I am still fine with the keyboard, mouse and mouse-pad the headset should've been a deal breaker had I tried it properly before purchase.

On top of this I also live under a Flight-path, so I usually get 10 or so planes flying over my house between 5-11pm which is annoying for me because otherwise I have to stop mid game to try and mute my microphone or people I'm talking to get annoyed because as I said before it picks up background noise fabulously so it is deafeningly loud over such communications.

Any new audio setup, a new headset or a desktop microphone + headset combo would be greatly appreciated to try and deal with these issues.

TL;DR current headset sucks, Lots of background noise but I only want it to pick up my voice, but do so at least moderately clearly, Thanks :)

Well, I was "hoping" that I could achieve increased quality for maybe $100 ish dollars +shipping but if its more than that how much more, because I could probably stretch to more like 150-180 if its really going to be true quality that lasts a lot of years.

HyperX Cloud.  I wouldn't recommend a desktop mic in your case since there's a lot of background noise, and a closed headset because of the aforementioned noise as well.

what about the HyperX Cloud II ?

sound 100% the same as the OG Clouds, they just come with shorter jack cables and that shitty USB sound card. There is maybe also a difference in the pads, not sure.

I'd go a set of real headphones and a modmic personally but that's just me =)

Here's the link to the Modmic [ https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-ModMic-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B00R98JVVU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469613708&sr=8-2&keywords=mod+mic ], you want the uni-directional with mute so it will only pick up your voice rather than noise from all around. It's great and just clips on with a magnet sticky so it'd removable. Another tip I do is put my mic on push-to-talk, personally I use the scroll wheel because its easy to press and reach. I'd couple the modmic with a good set of open-back headphones since they'll have better soundstage for pinpointing where oponents are if you're into fps games or for just more realistic soundstaging in general, the Sennheiser HD5518/558's + the modmic would be within your budget, here's the link for the Sennheiser's [ https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-558-Headphones/dp/B004FEEY9A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469613860&sr=8-2&keywords=sennheiser+518 ] another good option is the Audio Technica ATH-AD700X here is the link as well [ https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-AD700X-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B009S332TQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469613933&sr=8-2&keywords=audio+technica+ad500x ]. Either of those headphones would be a good fit for gaming, music listening, etc.. If you think background noise would be an issue for you though you could go with a closed pair of headphones since with those open-backed options will be able to hear people in the background depending on how loud your volume is up, a good set of closed cans would be something like the Sennheiser HD280 Pro's [ https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-280-Pro-Headphones/dp/B000065BPB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469614043&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+closed+headphone ] or another fan favourite is the Audio Technica ATH-M40X [ https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M40x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR54/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1469614115&sr=8-4&keywords=audio+technica ]. Although tbh I I had the M50X and prefer the other headphones to them, although if looks are an issue and you're thinking of wearing them out of the house the M40X's might be a good fit for you as they don't look too dorky =P

Hope this helps!

Haven't tried the Hyper X Cloud or Cloud II but reviews for them are generally good, except for its mic (ironically). Sound quality is said to be very good for both of them though. I am also using a Razer headset, the Man O'War Overwatch edition and I like both its sound and mic qualities. Mic is very clear, and for modulation I have placed a mic cover ripped off from another headset. This also acts as a sort of pop filter. I am not sure if it holds off picking up ambient noise since generally where I live in is quiet, but if you have any spare headset with a mic that has a cover you might try that on first to see if it might somewhat improve on mic quality.

I dont really know about headsets but senhisier is a good brand for headsets and for the mic, the

audio technica at2020 is a good one because you only need to buy a xlr to usb for it to work and in the future you can upgrade it to

What should I put here?
