CPU won't underclock on idle

Okay, seems I've managed to fix the issue.

 

Followed this process and it's idling around 3% now.

Hi,

 

As the title says. It used to downclock to around 800mhz before but has started to stay overclocked recently. Made sure I was in Balanced power mode but that didn't change but it did downclock in Power Saving mode. Went to the bios and loaded the optimized defaults but that didn't change.

 

What else can I check?

Main PC CPU: 7700K, MOBO: Asus Strix, GPU: Aorus Extreme 3080, PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 750, RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB Storage: 970 Evo 1tb

Lounge PC CPU: 4790K MOBO: Asus Hero VII GPU: EVGA 3060 Ti PSU: Corsair RM650 RAM: Kingston HyperX 16gb Storage: 970 Evo 1TB

That function I believe is in the BIOS and should be the EIST IIRC.... ensure that is enabled as well as the Intel C state.

this, make sure c states are enabled. i perfer them of myself and run at super all the time is generally safe. iv seen jayz2cents talk about this and he also turns them of and running flatout all the time. uses more power only.

C-state actually regulates the voltage being pushed, doesnt affect the idle clock speeds, thats the EIST, which is Enchanced Intel Speedstep. This is what downclocks your CPU at idle and only lets you use what you need.

Looked at the up those thing and enabled them but nothing changed. It did hover between 2-4ghz but then straight back to 3.9ghz all the time.

 

Processor Power Management has been set to 5% but still the same.

What is your usage? If you did see it drop and the spike up and hold, then its possible something is causing it to do that.

It's always around 27%. All I have running now is Firefox.

27% at idle or Firefox is a bit high IMO... Right now with just Chrome open as well as my system tray programs and background I am running between 2-10% on any given core. I personally run mine with EIST turned off, but c-state on and have zero issues. Been doing it this way for the past 2+ years on my 4690k.

Yeah I don't know what's happening. Just don't like having the clocks run high all the time.

Having it in Power saver mode brings the clock down but the cpu usage is still about the same.
