Power up GPU

Go to solution Solved by Zyndo,

Yes, using a single cable that has 2 8pin ends on it from your PSU to a GPU will work just fine. The only time it can really become an issue is if you're going for world record style overclocks. But in any normal users situation you're going to run into thermal issues before you run into power delivery issues, even if you want to go for 1500MHz+

I have a question. I use Corsair RM850 to power up my PC. For single MSI GTX980 TI 6G, it has two 8-pin power connectors. I searched online, everyone suggest that I connected two slot with two separate cables, and I did.

However, if I would like to upgrade my PC to GTX980 Ti SLI, it means I would need 4 separate cables to power up two graphic cards.

My PSU may not support that many cables in addition to other parts.

I do notice that each cable has two 8-pin connectors, can I power up two GTX 980 with only two cables?

That should work fine, I did that with 2 R9 290x's at one point and I didnt have any issues, No need to worry.

what about an 8 pin and a 6 pin for each GPU?

your PSU should support that

Actually, the GTX 980 Ti has two 8-pin connector. I would think I should use 8-pin connector.

Besides, the power cable connector is actually a 6+2 connector. So, I think use 6 pin or 8 pin does not make any difference.

Using two separate cables wont be necessary and doesn't make a difference even when overclocking. They should all be running on the same rail no matter what on that PSU anyway, that is only an issue with cheap dual rail system power supplies. Also don't make two of the same topics if a mod seen it you could have died.
